Food Safety Complaints Surge in Maharashtra’s Digital Watchdog Era

Maharashtra’s new food complaint-reporting portal got a flood of attention almost as soon as it opened, recording around 10 lakh hits within 24 hours. Pune, according to the state Food and Drug Administration, logged the highest number of complaints about unhygienic food.

That may sound like a city restaurant story, but farmers should not tune out. Food safety trust runs from soil to plate. When consumers lose confidence at the market, café, processor, or delivery counter, the whole food chain feels the wobble.

Digital complaint tools change the pace of accountability. In the old days, a bad meal might lead to grumbling across the table. Now it can become a logged complaint, a regulatory inspection, and a public conversation. That is good for consumers, but it also means everyone in the chain needs cleaner records and better habits.

For growers, dairy producers, meat suppliers, and processors, documentation matters. Temperature logs, pesticide records, wash water quality, storage sanitation, transport hygiene, and traceability are not just paperwork chores. They are proof that you did your part when questions arise downstream.
