Vineyard Designer - Plan Rows, Blocks, and Slopes

Vineyard Designer - Plan Rows, Blocks, and Slopes

Lay out vine rows and blocks on your real terrain. Check sun exposure, model slopes, and plan access and buildings before a single post goes in.

Key Features

🍇

Row and Block Layout

Place vine rows tile by tile and group them into named blocks. See exactly how many rows fit your parcel and how blocks relate to access paths.

⛰️

Terrain and Slope Modeling

Use elevation tools to model the hillside your vines will grow on. Plan drainage, terraces, and row direction against the real shape of the land.

☀️

Sun Position Tool

Test row orientation against real sun paths through the seasons. See where shadows fall at dawn, midday, and dusk before you commit to a layout.

🌊

Mediterranean Theme Packs

France, Spain, and Italy theme packs bring regional crops, structures, and styling - so your vineyard plan looks and feels like the region it sits in.

📊

Yields and Costs by Block

Track harvest quantities and expenses per area. Compare blocks season over season and see which parts of the vineyard earn their keep.

Row Orientation, Slope, and Sun

Few crops are as sensitive to site design as wine grapes. The same variety on the same soil can produce noticeably different fruit depending on how the rows are oriented, how steep the slope is, and how much sun each canopy receives through the growing season. Getting these decisions right at planting time matters, because a vineyard layout is effectively permanent - trellises, posts, and established vines are not things you rearrange later.

Row orientation determines how sunlight hits the fruit zone. North-south rows give both sides of the canopy morning and afternoon light, while east-west rows create a consistently sunny side and a shaded side. Neither is universally right - it depends on your latitude, climate, and slope. Fincabout's sun position tool lets you test orientations against real sun paths for your location, hour by hour and season by season, so the choice is based on evidence rather than habit.

Slope shapes everything else. Steeper ground drains cold air and water but complicates machinery access and may call for terracing. With the terrain and elevation tools you can model the actual hillside, sketch terrace lines, and check that drainage and access plans match the hill you have - not the flat plane of a paper sketch.

From Bare Land to First Vintage: Vineyard Infrastructure

A vineyard is more than rows of vines. Between planting and your first vintage sits several years of establishment work, and the infrastructure decisions you make at the start determine how smoothly harvest runs for decades.

Access comes first. Every block needs a route wide enough for the equipment you will actually use - a tractor and trailer at harvest, a sprayer during the season. Map headlands and access paths alongside your rows so turning space is designed in, not discovered as a problem later.

Water and wind protection follow. Young vines usually need irrigation to establish, so plan water lines and storage before the rows go in. Windbreaks along exposed edges protect tender shoots in spring; placing them on the map shows you how much productive area they cost and where their shadows fall.

Buildings and expansion round out the plan. Sketch the footprint of a winery, equipment shed, or tasting room now, even if construction is years away, and reserve future blocks in advance. A vineyard planned in stages on a single map grows coherently instead of accumulating compromises.
