This matters because farms sit at the meeting point between habitat and production. Animal movement affects crop browsing, disease risk, livestock predation, pollination, fence pressure, and conservation planning. If human presence changes wildlife routes, then timing and placement of farm activity can become a management tool.
Practical examples are easy to imagine: adjusting calving areas away from predator corridors, timing field work to reduce disturbance near nesting habitat, using guardian animals where carnivore pressure is predictable, or designing buffer zones that guide rather than simply block wildlife. Good land management is often less about drawing hard lines and more about understanding traffic patterns.
The study also cautions against assuming every species reacts the same way. That is important. A strategy that discourages one problem animal may attract another. As usual, nature refuses to read the instruction manual, so observation remains one of the farmer’s best tools.
