Safe composting requires validated temperatures, time, monitoring, separation from food crops when appropriate, and sometimes additional treatment beyond vermicomposting.

Ascaris eggs are a particular concern because they can persist in the environment and pose health risks if contaminated material reaches hands, water, or produce. Worms may improve texture and nutrient cycling, but they should not be treated as a guaranteed pathogen kill step.
