Indian Punjab Farm Planner
Design wheat-rice rotations, Basmati paddies, sugarcane fields, and dairy buffalo operations with tiles built for Punjab agriculture.
Key Features
Wheat Production
Design wheat fields for Punjab's rabi season with variety selection and canal irrigation planning. Layout threshing and storage infrastructure.
Basmati Rice
Plan rice paddies with bund construction, water management, and transplanting layouts. Design for the aromatic Basmati varieties that Punjab is famous for.
Sugarcane Planning
Layout sugarcane fields with row spacing, ratoon management, and mill access. Plan irrigation schedules for this water-intensive crop.
Dairy Buffalo
Design dairy buffalo operations with shed layouts, fodder plots, and milk collection. Plan for Murrah and other breeds central to Punjab's dairy economy.
Mustard Fields
Map mustard (sarson) production with proper spacing and rotation. Plan oil extraction and processing for this signature Punjab winter crop.
Canal Irrigation
Design field layouts around Punjab's extensive canal system. Plan watercourse distribution and tube-well placement for supplemental irrigation.
Punjab: India's Breadbasket
Punjab, meaning "land of five rivers," is India's most productive agricultural state. Despite comprising only 1.5% of India's land area, Punjab produces over 25% of the nation's wheat and a significant share of its rice. The Green Revolution of the 1960s-70s transformed Punjab from a drought-prone region into an agricultural powerhouse through high-yielding varieties, canal irrigation, and mechanization.
The wheat-rice rotation is Punjab's dominant cropping system. Wheat is grown as the rabi (winter) crop from November to April, followed by transplanted rice as the kharif (monsoon) crop from June to October. This intensive double-cropping system produces two harvests per year but has raised concerns about falling water tables, soil health, and paddy straw burning.
Basmati rice from Punjab and neighboring Haryana is among the world's most valued rice, prized for its long, slender grains and distinctive aroma. Basmati cultivation requires careful water management and specific growing conditions found in the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Premium Basmati commands prices several times higher than ordinary rice varieties.
Farming Methods in the Indo-Gangetic Plain
Punjab's agriculture benefits from the flat, alluvial soils of the Indo-Gangetic Plain, one of the world's most fertile agricultural regions. The deep, well-drained loamy soils are ideal for wheat, rice, and sugarcane, while the canal irrigation network built by the British and expanded post-independence provides reliable water supply beyond monsoon rainfall.
Mechanization in Punjab is among the highest in India, with combine harvesters, laser land leveling, and precision seeding widely adopted. The Happy Seeder technology, which sows wheat directly into rice stubble without burning, is addressing the annual air quality crisis caused by paddy straw burning while also improving soil health through residue incorporation.
Dairy farming is deeply integrated with crop production in Punjab. Water buffalo, particularly the Murrah breed, produce rich milk that forms the basis of Punjab's thriving dairy industry. Crop residues and dedicated fodder plots (berseem clover, Napier grass) feed the animals, while manure returns nutrients to crop fields. This crop-livestock integration is the foundation of Punjab's farming economy.
