Croft Planner - Plan Grazing, Growing, and Buildings

Croft Planner - Plan Grazing, Growing, and Buildings

Map your croft as it really is. Trace irregular field boundaries, plan grazing and growing areas, and keep livestock and cost records alongside the layout.

Key Features

🗺️

Irregular Boundary Mapping

Trace in-bye fields and awkward parcels exactly as they lie. No croft is a neat rectangle, and your plan should not pretend otherwise.

🐑

Sheep and Cattle Tiles

Map grazing, lambing areas, handling pens, and byres. Lay out the working parts of the croft alongside the fields themselves.

🌾

Hay and Pasture Planning

Meadow, silage, and rough grazing tiles with per-area stats, so you know how much ground is in each use.

🌦️

Weather Dashboard

Live conditions and forecast for your location. On an exposed site, knowing what is coming shapes what you do today.

📒

Records That Add Up

Track expenses and keep livestock records against the map, so the paperwork side of crofting lives next to the layout.

Plans You Can Submit

Export a clean, high-resolution plan image of your croft for applications, paperwork, and conversations with officials.

Planning a Working Croft

A croft is a balancing act: limited in-bye ground doing several jobs at once, with rougher grazing beyond it. Getting the layout right means being honest about what each parcel can actually do, and a visual plan on your real boundary makes that conversation much easier.

In-bye versus hill is the first division. The in-bye fields carry the hay or silage crop, the lambing paddocks, and anything intensive; the hill or rough grazing carries stock through the rest of the year. Map both with different tile types and the per-area stats show exactly how the ground splits.

The veg plot and polytunnel need shelter above all else. Site them in the lee of buildings, walls, or a shelterbelt, close enough to the house that they get daily attention. A polytunnel in the wrong spot on an exposed croft is a short-lived polytunnel.

Access and drainage decide what is workable on wet ground. Plan tracks that stay passable in winter, keep gateways off the wettest ground, and mark drainage runs on the plan so future work builds on what is already there.

Plans and Records for Grants and Schemes

Much of crofting admin comes down to being able to show, clearly, what your croft is and what happens on it. A tidy map and a set of consistent records take the pain out of forms that otherwise mean pacing fields and digging through old notebooks.

A clear map of the croft - boundaries, field areas, buildings, and land use - answers half the questions on most applications before you start writing. Export your Fincabout plan as a high-resolution image and attach it to paperwork or bring it to planning conversations.

Records alongside the map do the rest. Yield history, stock counts, and expense records kept against the layout mean that when a scheme application or an adviser asks what the croft produces and what it costs to run, the answer is already written down.
